Description

The Value Portfolio is CNaught’s narrowest portfolio, designed to include affordable, high-quality avoided emission carbon credits that drive impact. A portfolio approach to credits is recommended by the World Economic Forum, and CNaught’s approach embodies the science-based best practices laid out in Oxfordโ€™s Principles for Carbon Offsetting. In order to maximize affordability, the Value Portfolio does not include any projects that remove existing carbon from the atmosphere–despite carbon removal being a critical technology in need of investment.

Portfolio Composition

The Value Portfolio provides cost-effective carbon offsetting through high-quality avoidance credits. This portfolio focuses on proven technology-based and nature-based reduction projects that deliver verified emissions reductions at an accessible price point.

Projects in This Portfolio

Nature-based Reductions 3 projects 35%

This category typically consists of nature-based projects that help retain an existing source of natural carbon storage that would otherwise be at risk โ€” for example, rainforests that would be cut down for development or peat bogs that might be drained for agriculture.

Katingan Mentaya Conservation
Katingan Mentaya Conservation

One of the highest-regarded avoided deforestation projects in the world, this project protects and restores 149,800 hectares of peatland ecosystems in Indonesia that would likely otherwise have been converted to palm and other plantations.

Manoa REDD+
Manoa REDD+

One of the highest-regarded avoided deforestation projects in the world, this project protects and restores 18,1500 hectares of the Amazon from illegal deforestation.

Bottomland Forests of the Louisiana Plains
Bottomland Forests of the Louisiana Plains

This is an improved forest management project that works with local landowners in Louisiana and Mississippi to protect their forests.

Technology-based Reductions 6 projects 65%

This category covers a wide range of projects that aim to reduce and avoid emissions versus business as usual. Examples include: natural gas leak repairs, destruction of refrigerants that would otherwise be vented to the atmosphere, and capture of methane emitted from landfills.

Oeste de Caucaia Landfill
Oeste de Caucaia Landfill

This project collects landfill gas at a municipal landfill near the city of Fortaleza in Brazil. It avoids the emission of methane (a potent greenhouse gas) into the atmosphere and displaces natural gas in…

Titas Gas Leak Repair
Titas Gas Leak Repair

This project reduces natural gas leaks from a gas distribution network in Bangladesh through the use of an advanced leak detection and repair program that would not be feasible without carbon credit revenue.

Liling Landfill Gas Project
Liling Landfill Gas Project

This project collects landfill gas to generate 3.2MW of electricity at a landfill in Hunan Province, China, avoiding the emission of methane (a potent greenhouse gas) into the atmosphere and using the methane to…

Istanbul Landfill Gas to Electricity
Istanbul Landfill Gas to Electricity

This project collects landfill gas to generate more than 42MW of electricity at two landfills near Istanbul, Turkey, avoiding the emission of methane (a potent greenhouse gas) into the atmosphere and using the methane…

Gaziantep Landfill Gas
Gaziantep Landfill Gas

This project collects landfill gas to generate 5.655MW of electricity at a landfill serving Gaziantep City, Turkey, avoiding the emission of methane (a potent greenhouse gas) into the atmosphere and using the methane to…

Fuzhou Hongmiaoling Landfill Gas to Electricity
Fuzhou Hongmiaoling Landfill Gas to Electricity

This project collects landfill gas to generate 2.5MW of electricity at a landfill in southeastern China, avoiding the emission of methane (a potent greenhouse gas) into the atmosphere and using the methane to generate…
