Embedded Offsetting

Show the real carbon footprint of your products on your store, and offset the carbon in every paid order automatically — billed to you, never to your shoppers. WooCommerce and Shopify have a plugin and an app; every other store takes one line of HTML.

What Embedded Offsetting is

Embedded Offsetting does two things on your store, and you can use either one on its own.

  • It shows the real carbon footprint of your products — on product pages, on pricing and collection pages, in the cart, and at checkout.
  • It offsets the carbon in every paid order automatically — matched to the products actually bought, charged to you, never to your shopper.

The footprints are real analyses of your own products, not category averages or estimates. Nothing appears on your storefront until you switch a product on, so you decide what goes live and when.

See it running before you set anything up: the live demo store is a working catalogue with footprints and offsetting switched on. No account, nothing to install.

What your shoppers see

A footprint card on the product page, styled to inherit your theme — the product’s carbon footprint, what it costs to offset or remove, and its climate impact in your own currency.

On pricing pages, collections and landing pages, the same thing as a compact tile: one tile per product, dropped wherever the product sits on the page.

At checkout, a single footprint line under the item description.

What they never see is a charge, a fee, or a checkbox. Offsetting is settled by you, so nothing is added to their basket and nothing is asked of them.

What you see

Every product carries its measured footprint, a live or off state, and its own controls. Nothing is published until you switch it on, and you can re-analyse or remove any product at any time — individually or in bulk.

Who pays, and what it costs

Offsets are billed to the payment method saved in your CarbonGuru account, after the order is paid. Your shopper is not charged and not asked to opt in.

Test-mode and preview orders are recorded so you can see exactly what would have happened, and are never charged.

You do not hand over any processor keys. CarbonGuru never writes into your Stripe, PayPal or store account.

WooCommerce — install the plugin

Install CarbonGuru Embedded Offsetting from Plugins → Add New in your WordPress admin, connect it to your CarbonGuru account, and it places the footprint card on your product pages for you.

Listing tiles for shop and category pages are switched on from the same settings screen. There is nothing to paste.

Shopify — install the app

Install CarbonGuru Offsetting from the Shopify App Store and place the footprint blocks from Shopify’s own theme editor — product template, collection grids, cart and checkout — with nothing to paste.

Any other store — the snippet

Every other platform — custom, headless, a site builder, or a store we have no plugin for — uses one line of HTML.

Open Embedded Offsetting in your CarbonGuru account. The panel shows your snippet with your own publishable handle already filled in:

<script src="https://carbonguru.io/embed.js" data-cg-merchant="mk_live_…" async></script>

Paste it once into your product template. Every product page can then show its own footprint, styled to inherit your theme. For pricing pages, collections and landing pages, the panel also gives you a tiles block: paste it once, then drop one tile wherever a product sits.

The handle in your snippet is publishable — it is meant to be visible in your page source. It cannot be used to read your data or make a purchase.

Nothing renders until you analyse your catalogue and switch products on, so you can place the snippet on a live store safely before anything appears.

Checkouts you don’t host

Stripe Checkout, Stripe Payment Links and PayPal Checkout print the item description you pass them — and that description comes from you.

Your setup panel lists a ready-made footprint line for every active product, matched to the product identifier your checkout already uses. Pass it as the item description and it appears at checkout. Selling through Payment Links? Paste the line into the product’s description in your Stripe Dashboard.

Copy the lines from the panel one at a time, or download them all as a CSV. Stripe merchants can upload their product export straight from the Dashboard, and CarbonGuru picks up each product id for matching.

Switching on automatic offsetting

Your checkout already tells your own system when an order is paid. Add one step there to tell CarbonGuru too, and every paid order is matched to its products and offset on your saved payment method.

The panel shows the exact call to make, with your own receiver address and a real product identifier already filled in — you send the paid order’s product ids and quantities.

  • Subscriptions are offset at signup and again on every renewal.
  • Preview mode shows you which orders matched, and what they would have cost, before anything is charged.
  • Test-mode orders arrive as previews and are never charged.

WooCommerce and Shopify merchants do not need this step — the plugin and the app report paid orders for you.

Watching orders arrive

The setup panel lists every order CarbonGuru receives from your store — including previews and anything that could not be matched — with what matched and how much carbon it carried.

Send a test order and you will see it land there, which is the quickest way to confirm your integration works before you go live.

Plans and limits

Embedded Offsetting is included with Plus, Pro and Prime, and it is live now.

Each plan sets how many products you can analyse and keep active at once — 200 on Plus, 500 on Pro, 1,250 on Prime. That allowance is shared with your own analyses.
