Today we are making CarbonGuru available as an API. Any application can measure the carbon footprint of a product, an order or a purchase record, and buy the matching offset in the same workflow.
What you can do with it
- Analysis. Measure products, carts, text, structured items and accounting files, and read back every result, session and export.
- Catalog footprints. Push a product catalog, get a footprint for every product and variant, and read those footprints live.
- Offsets and removals. Price a footprint or a budget, build a cart, and get a checkout link. Report paid orders and have their carbon offset automatically.
- Reference data. NAICS codes, industry sectors, emission factors and the countries available for analysis.
- Webhooks. Events when an analysis finishes or fails, and when a catalog push completes.
Who it is for
- Online stores and marketplaces. Show a footprint on every product you sell and offset customer orders as they are paid, billed to you and never to the shopper.
- Finance, purchasing and operations teams. Measure invoices, expenses and supplier items, export them with carbon columns added, and offset a purchase or a quarter at a time.
- Product and platform teams. Add footprints and offsetting to your own product without building a carbon model or a credit supply chain.
Where this is going
Our aim is offsetting that runs by itself: carbon measured at the moment of the purchase and acted on immediately, rather than counted months later. Embedded Offsetting already does that for stores. The API extends it to every other place a purchase happens.
Pricing
Every CarbonGuru account includes the API, the free plan too, with 30 analyses a month. An API request reaches what your plan reaches on the website, and analyses count against the same allowance.
Get started
Create an API key in the API section of your account. The API overview covers what the API does and how to start, and the API reference documents every call.
