Gmail Integration Setup

Gmail Integration Setup

Automatically process order receipts from your Gmail inbox. Gmail integration scans your inbox for order confirmations and calculates carbon footprints automatically.

Prerequisites

  • โœ… CarbonGuru account created and logged in
  • โœ… A Gmail account (personal or Google Workspace)

How Gmail Integration Works

When you connect your Gmail account, CarbonGuru securely accesses your inbox using Google OAuth. We scan for order confirmation emails from supported retailers and automatically extract product information to calculate carbon footprints.

Step-by-Step: Connect Your Gmail

1. Go to Gmail Settings

2. Connect Your Google Account

  • Click “Connect Gmail”
  • A Google sign-in window will appear
  • Select the Gmail account you want to connect
  • Review the permissions CarbonGuru is requesting
  • Click “Allow” to grant access

3. Configure Scanning Options

  • Date Range: Choose how far back to scan (last 30 days, 90 days, or all time)
  • Retailers: Select which retailers to scan for (Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc.)
  • Auto-scan: Enable to automatically process new receipts as they arrive

4. Start Your First Scan

  • Click “Scan Now” to begin processing your emails
  • Processing may take several minutes depending on the number of emails
  • Results will appear in your Email Footprints page

Privacy & Security

  • OAuth 2.0: We use Google secure OAuth – we never see your Gmail password
  • Read-only access: CarbonGuru can only read emails, never send or delete
  • Selective scanning: We only look for order confirmations, not personal emails
  • Revoke anytime: Disconnect your account from the settings page or from your Google Account permissions

Troubleshooting

Connection Failed

  • Ensure you are logged into CarbonGuru before connecting Gmail
  • Try using an incognito/private browser window
  • Check that pop-ups are allowed for carbonguru.io
  • If using Google Workspace, ensure your admin has not blocked third-party apps

No Receipts Found

  • Ensure your order confirmation emails are in your inbox (not archived or deleted)
  • Check the date range setting – it may be set too narrow
  • Some retailers may not be supported yet – contact us to request support

Alternative: If you dont use Gmail, you can use Email Forwarding to send receipts from any email provider.
